The valley is adorned with snow-capped mountains, a snow-covered, pristine landscape, an alpine forest, deep ravines dotted with greenery, glistening glaciers, sparkling azure rivers, magnificent monasteries, and charming hamlets that give it the appearance of a mesmerizing painting. Travelers and hikers from all over the world are drawn to the valley and the monasteries by their surreal beauty. Tibet is to the east of Spiti, Ladakh is to the north, Kullu and Lahaul are to the south, and Kinnaur is to the south-east. The majority of people living in the East Spiti Valley are Tibetans, making it a sparsely populated area. Komik, the highest village in the world, is located in Spiti. In the village of Hikkim, it also takes pride in having the highest post office and polling place in the world. The Kunzum range is the source of the Spiti River. Two of its tributaries are the Tegpo and Kabzian streams. The famous Pin Valley National Park is drained by water from the Spiti River system as well. Due to its location across the main Himalayan range, it is deprived of the benefits of the South-West monsoons, which from June to September bring widespread rain to most of India. The river reaches its maximum discharge in the late summers as a result of glacier melting. The Spiti River joins the Satluj near Khab and Namgia in the Kinnaur district after flowing through the Spiti Valley and traveling approximately 150 km from the North-West.Along both sides of the Spiti River and its numerous tributaries, steep mountains rise to extremely high altitudes. On either side of the Spiti River and all of its tributaries, steep mountains reach extremely high altitudes. There is little to no vegetation covering the mountains, which are arid. Kaza and Tabo are the principal towns along the Spiti River and its tributaries.
